The Andersons Grain & Ethanol Group
Amid the ups and downs of agriculture The Andersons has remained a constant - building unique relationships with our customers, employees, business partners and with the communities in which we operate.
Agriculture was our first business and today is our largest, with grain elevators in the four eastern cornbelt states of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. We participate in the western cornbelt grain trade through our ownership in Lansing Trading Group, LLC. Kansas City.
Our 14 elevators have a combined storage capacity of 150 million bushels and are strategically located for efficient access to domestic and foreign markets. We purchase large quantities of grain and oilseeds - primarily corn, soybeans, and wheat - from farms and country elevators in the region, then store, condition, and market the grain to domestic and export processors. Our grain may end up as feed for a chicken in the southeastern U.S., bread in your sandwich, or tofu on a table in Japan.
Generations of Midwestern families have brought their grain to The Andersons, knowing it as the same farmer-friendly, innovative business that aggressively established itself in the late 1940's. The Chicago Board of Trade registers our Toledo and Maumee, Ohio facilities for wheat delivery. Through the Toledo facilities, The Andersons can load vessels for export via the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway.
Our investment in ethanol production is a natural extension of our agriculture business since the majority of the cost of ethanol is corn. We provide services to the ethanol industry through plant management, corn origination, and the marketing of distiller dried grain (DDG) and ethanol marketing. Our core competencies in risk management can be extended to help optimize the return on ethanol investments.
We are the largest equity investor in The Andersons Albion (Michigan) Ethanol LLC and The Andersons Clymers (Indiana) Ethanol LLC. The Andersons Marathon Ethanol LLC, a 50/50 joint venture between The Andersons, Inc. and Marathon Petroleum Company LLC, (a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corporation) is located in Greenville (Ohio).
These ethanol plants are strategically located near our existing grain facilities, and position us well to serve this industry. We originate corn for an ethanol facility in Rensselaer, Indiana, and have origination and/or marketing agreements in place at several ethanol projects still in the planning stage.
We continue to differentiate our superior service with innovations such as computer software that helps our customers make marketing decisions by analyzing price and yield possibilities, decision tools to help producers analyze their options under the USDA Farm Bill, and Comprehensive Risk Management Services for the ethanol industry.
The core grain handling business supplied the foundation for our fertilizer business. The Andersons Plant Nutrient Group formulates and distributes nearly one and a half million tons of dry and liquid plant nutrients every year to a network of hundreds of dealers and distributors throughout the north eastern United States, and our farm centers offer an extensive menu of products and services that are vital to successful crop production.
Customers have appreciated the personal commitment they sense when doing business with The Andersons for more than 60 years. We hope you feel the same today.
